Compassion is defined as “deep awareness of the suffering of
another coupled with the wish to relieve it.” But it’s more than
just that. Compassion is an attitude, a philosophy, a way of
life. If a child learns compassion, all other scholarly pursuits
are merely details in the scheme of life.
This program is designed to introduce compassion in three main
areas:
Compassionate Kids Care About the EARTH
The Earth is vitally important to the survival of our species
and everything we know. As a silent recipient to all the abuse
inflicted upon her soil, air, and water, the Earth simply shifts
in response to conditions, even to those that bring about
irreparable harm. It is up to us to take action to protect the
planet, our home, the beautiful silent Earth that needs us to
speak on her behalf.
We must recognize the necessity of instilling this urgency upon
our children, the next generation of our planet’s protectors.
It’s never too early to start teaching children to care about
the Earth. Even toddlers should be gently guided to treat grass
and other plants as living entities to be cared for.
Compassionate Kids will learn about recycling, saving energy,
and choosing earth-friendly products. As a support to parents,
teachers, and home educators, we will list on this website
environmentally supportive curriculums, activities, recommended
books, videos, magazines, articles, organizations, websites, and
other earth-friendly resources.
Compassionate Kids Care About PEOPLE
Compassionate Kids learn about different cultures and all
different types of people. They show respect and acceptance and
learn about how to stand up for what’s right in the face of
discrimination.
As a support to parents, teachers, and home educators, we will
list on this website racially-diverse curriculums, activities,
books, videos, magazines, articles, organizations, websites, and
other people-friendly resources.
Compassionate Kids Care About ANIMALS
In
the study of psychopaths, it has been proven that people who are
cruel to animals rarely stop there. In fact, the U.S. National
Parent-Teacher Association Congress was quoted as saying the
following:
"Children trained to extend justice, kindness, and mercy to
animals become more just, kind, and considerate in their
[relations] with one another. Character training along these
lines in youth will result in men and women of broader
sympathies; more law-abiding-in every respect more
valuable-citizens."
Compassionate Kids learn about respect for ALL living creatures;
that all living beings exist for their own reasons, not for our
benefit as a superior species. They learn the proper care of animals,
including steps to help endangered animals, as well as animals in
entertainment, laboratories, and factory farms.
As a support to parents, teachers, and home educators, we will
list on this website animal-friendly curriculums, activities,
books, videos, magazines, articles, organizations, websites, and
other animal-friendly resources.
